Recreation and parks:

Our programs and facilities have not kept pace with surrounding communities. Let's keep kids out of trouble by spending money on improved recreation facilities and opportunities rather than on juvenile court costs or jail space.

Many people have expressed concerns about the condition of or lack of recreation facilities, parks, ball fields, etc., in Provo. Often they reference the nice facilities found in other Utah Valley communities as a comparison.

The usual comment is something like:

"If (blank) can afford to build new (soccer fields, baseball fields, swimming pools, tennis courts, etc.), why can't Provo? After all, it is a much smaller city with a much smaller budget."

It's a good question and one that I intend to fully explore. Parks, pools, trails and sports facilities contribute to the quality of life in any community. If Provo is to be a model city, this is an area where work needs to be done.

We have a beautiful trail alongside a sparkling river lined with broken concrete. A lot of restoration has occurred on upper portions of the river. With a little work, the lower sections through Provo can be much nicer.
